In short: Baromo has no account and no sign-up. Your journal, check-ins, tastes and photos stay on your phone. We can’t access them, we don’t sell them and we don’t share them with anyone.
Who publishes the app
Baromo is published by BNK Studio. For any question about your data: bonjour@baromo.app.
What stays on your phone
This information is stored only in the app’s storage, on your device:
- your evening check-ins (the areas of life you pick: mood, work, love, family…), your forecast, your streak and your challenges;
- your answers to the daily taste, your favourites and your portrait;
- in Duo mode: your name, your duos’ names and your answers to duo games; in Heart mode: your date notebook;
- “My world”: the photos you pick, your colour, your totem, your word and your current song;
- the day and month of your birthday, if you give them for the horoscope;
- your settings (language, sidekick, reminder time).
Some of this relates to your mood or your love life. That is exactly why it never leaves your phone.
What goes over the internet
- Today’s news and the horoscope are downloaded from our server (Supabase, hosted in Paris, in the European Union). The request contains no information about you. As with any connection, the host technically sees your IP address in order to reply and keeps it briefly in its technical logs; we don’t use it to track you.
- This content is written every morning by an AI (Claude, by Anthropic) from public news. No player data is sent to it.
- News reactions: when you react to a story (😊, 😂…), your emoji adds 1 to a simple counter on our server, with no identifier at all (no account, no device ID, no stored IP address). News reactions are only ever published as anonymous, aggregated statistics, the next day, and only for light stories that got enough reactions (The news, as the Baros felt it). Nobody can tell who reacted, or how.
- Polls: when you vote in a poll (a Red flag card in the app, or a poll on baromo.app), your choice adds 1 to a counter, with no identifier. On the website, so that a browser only votes once, we only keep a fingerprint of a random number stored in your browser (no account, no IP address, no tracking cookie). Results are only published as anonymous percentages, once there are enough votes. The “Ask your friends” link contains your choice, so your friend can see whether they voted like you; nothing else about you. Questions are written by the Baromo team, never by players.
- Your weekly comic: to draw it, the app sends our server a few anonymous facts about your week (your daily weather, how many quests, challenges and games, calendar events), your language and your mascot's name. The server passes them to Claude (Anthropic), which writes the story, and keeps only the date of the request and your app's anonymous ID, to limit comics to one a week. Nothing from your secret notebook and no text you wrote is sent. The private comic is drawn only on your phone.
- Where I’m from and Baros near me: if you choose to (it’s optional), your town, region, county and country are kept on our server. You pick them by hand from a list: never your GPS location. Your public card only shows what you decide (nothing at first, your country, your region, or your town from age 18). They are also used to suggest Baros near you, only if you joined the Baros of your town or accepted challenges. “Erase my location” deletes it all.
- Online status: if you want (it’s on to begin with), your linked duos and the members of your island and groups see a 🟢 dot when you have the app open, or “seen … ago” (nothing after 7 days). Nobody else. Only the latest moment is kept, no history. Turn it off in Profile › My profile: you then stop seeing others too.
- Links to news sources open in your browser. Those sites have their own privacy rules.
- Your feedback: the “Your feedback” button in the Profile tab sends us your mood, the topics you tick, your message and the app version. It’s anonymous: no name, no email, no phone identifier. Without a connection, your mail app opens instead.
- Secret notebook: your journal, intimate calendar, people, gift lists and Gazette stay on your phone only. The notebook opens with Face ID (or your phone passcode); Baromo never sees your face, your phone does the check.
- Suggestions as you type: when you look up a film, show, book or song, the text you type is sent to Apple’s public search service; for a place, to Photon (OpenStreetMap). Nothing else is sent, and these services don’t know who you are.
- Gifts: the “See” button opens an Amazon search in your browser. Amazon has its own privacy rules; the link may include our partner ID, never your data.
Photos, notifications and sharing
- Photos: Baromo accesses your photo library only when you pick a photo for “My world”. The photo is copied into the app’s storage and is never uploaded.
- Notifications: the evening reminder is scheduled on your phone. Notifications between players (“your duo played”, a request, a news item received) go through our server and Expo’s notification service, with your phone’s technical token and the other player’s first name or nickname.
- Sharing: a card is only shared when you tap “Share”, through your phone’s share sheet. You choose the app and the person.
- Duo links: when you start a game for two, your answers, your name and your daily tastes are packed into the link you send yourself (after the “#” sign, a part of the link browsers never send to a server). We never receive or store these links: only the person you send it to can read them.
- Linked duo: the first link also carries an invitation code. When your duo opens it, your two apps get linked and the next games go through our server (Supabase, in Europe) instead of a link. It only keeps an anonymous ID for your app (no name, email or phone number), the technical token used to send you a notification, your language, and the games on their way to your duo (first names, answers, daily tastes). Each game is deleted two days after it is received, and after 14 days at most. “Forget this duo” ends the link.
- Players by nickname: if you choose a nickname (Together tab), it is kept on our server with your app’s anonymous ID, so your friends can find you (you can make yourself unfindable). Link-up requests (with the short first name you give and the type of link), blocks, likes and greetings between duos, the daily news you send to a duo, referrals and reports (reason and reported content, used for moderation) also go through it. Nicknames and first names are filtered automatically. None of this is tied to your name, email or phone number.
- Pioneer code: when you redeem your gift code, our server records your app’s anonymous ID so the code can only be used once.
Ads, analytics and trackers
Baromo shows no ads: no banners, no videos. Baromo uses no analytics tool and no advertising tracker, so it never asks for permission to track you.
- Purchases: Baromo sells nothing today, no subscription and no in-app purchase, and uses no payment service. If that changes, this page will be updated first.
- If this ever changes: if Baromo later offers optional videos, they will stay the player's choice, your consent will be asked first, and this page will be updated beforehand.
Website visits
On baromo.app, we count visits to the home page, once per visit, with the page language and where you came from (for example a link shared in a story). It is a simple daily counter: no cookies, no IP address kept, no identifier, nothing that tells us who you are. Your browser only remembers, for the length of the visit, that it has already been counted. The counter is hosted by Supabase, in the European Union.
Creator applications
On baromo.app/kit, content creators can join the creator program. We keep their username, platform, profile link, follower count (a range), what they'd like to make, their message and, if they give it, their email. This is used only to contact them about Baromo and to count the sign-ups that come through their link. The legal basis is their consent, given by ticking the box provided (along with confirming they are 16 or older). It is never sold or shared, and is hosted by Supabase, in the European Union. To have it deleted, just write to us at bonjour@baromo.app.
Pre-registration on the website
Before launch, you can leave your email address on baromo.app to be told when Baromo is out. This only concerns the website: the app itself still has no account and no sign-up. We keep your address, the page language and where you came from (for example a TikTok link) for one purpose only: sending you one single email on launch day, with your Pioneer gift code. After that, the list is deleted. Your address is never sold, shared or used for advertising. It is hosted by Supabase, in the European Union. To have it deleted sooner, write to us at bonjour@baromo.app.
Android testers
For the Android test of Baromo, you can sign up at baromo.app/en/android. We keep your first name or nickname, your Gmail address, the page language and where you came from, for one purpose only: adding you to the testers in Google's Play Console and sending you the test link. A hashed fingerprint of your IP address is only used to slow down bulk sign-ups. Your address is deleted once Baromo is publicly out on the Play Store. It is never sold, shared or used for advertising, and it is hosted by Supabase, in the European Union. To have it deleted sooner, write to us at bonjour@baromo.app.
Age
Baromo is intended for people aged 16 and over.
Deleting your data
Since everything is on your phone, uninstalling the app erases all your data. We can neither see nor recover it.
Your rights
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you the right to access, rectify, erase and object. We hold almost nothing: no name, no account, and no email unless you pre-registered on the website (see above). You can write to us at any time at bonjour@baromo.app. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: cnil.fr).
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with its update date.
